GeTM (GENÈVE TIERS MONDE) is a solidarity association, whose aims are to improve living conditions of the most underpriviledged

 GeTM is an NGO which was founded in 1983 in order to support development projects.

GeTM has a twofold objective:

- to raise awareness amongst Geneva politicians and the population about the problems faced by the poorest countries in the world;
- to help partner NGOs in the South to deliver education, gender equality, employment and environmental protection. 

One of our action in Peru

Fight against housework of young women and adolescents

As a matter of fact, the Peruvian legislation authorises to work from the age of 14 years old, at the rate of maximum 4 hours per day.
The children and adolescents code sets the work conditions and the standards which nor-mally should be respected.
Unfortunately these rules are not applied. At present the CESIP, our local partner, is getting involved in solving the problem of young ladies doing housework.
Often these young girls are from the countryside and actually their family’ members are the ones who attract them in town telling them that they will have better chances of integration and success in their life. Accommodation is provided in counterparts.
Even if sometimes the opportunity to go to school is true, these young ladies do not attend school at all. When they have the chance to go to the evening classes, the workload forced by their employer is too high to be compatible with the school program.
At the end, they do leave the school since they fail once or more times.

In order to fight this situation, the local association supported by GeTM developed a project which aims to stop the domestic work done by young girls and the respect of the actual leg-islation.
Awareness and information campaigns for both these affected girls and their employers are organised. The CESIP has also set a special service to help and advice other associations in-tended to develop better and more adequate procedures.
Finally, this project aims at preventing employers to exploit children and adolescents by re-establish their fundamental rights: access to education, healthcare and respectful treatments.
